Rüdiger Jezewski

Head of “Haus Eiche”(Oak House) and “Pflegeoase” (Nursing Care Oasis)

Rüdiger Jezweski is the head of the establishments “Haus Eiche”(Oak House) and “Pflegeoase” (Nursing Care Oasis) and developed these concepts for dementia sufferers in 2006.

“We no longer want to do without, and there’s no going back as far as we are concerned!”, that’s the unanimously voiced opinion given by the relatives of patients staying at the nursing care oasis to evaluation questionnaires presented to them by authorities. Of course the reply to the question as to whether people suffering from dementia really do require nursing care oases, is not so easy to answer, but these are important views that need to be listened to.

What is all-important are the needs of people with severe dementia, as well as having a deeper understanding and far-reaching acceptance to on the one hand consistently adapt to these needs and to on the other also establish a culture of appreciation on a day-to-day basis. In practice, a vision that incorporates a different way of living together only works when all those involved know what’s going on and are willing to act accordingly and pull together. That’s why the staff and relatives are the most important people in the nursing care oasis alongside the patients. Together they create the atmosphere required in the oasis – turning it into a place where no one needs to feel alone! After all, the nursing care oasis is not just a dormitory without any sense of privacy, but also an especially unique living space.

In his talk R. Jezewski reflects on his seven years of experience, taking in various different perspectives and discussing the many reasons why this type of care concept is so desperately needed and why it is so valuable, but will also look into its limitations.
