Peter Wißmann is the publisher of “demenz. Das Magazin” and the head of KuKuK-TV, which aims to show how people can participate actively in a social life even with age-related limitations and restrictions related to illness.
People want to participate in all manner of things wherever possible, such as events and decision-making processes that will affect their own lives and also living together with other people. With some people, it will be easier and with others harder and with some it won’t work at all. The latter often happens when dealing with people suffering from dementia. There are only a few examples where actually“being involved and participating” is really the case.
Too difficult, too unusual, too unknown: It’s not being able to participate – even with dementia – is not traditional in our society. We seem to be too fixated on care, however, there definitely is a demand nowadays for social participation as well. Peter Wißmann’s talk shows exactly how this demand can become reality and what needs to be done to achieve it by using practical examples.
